Minutes of ISE/E2C Meeting on November 25th, 1998

Magda will bring ISE/E2C mission statement and “flyer” to clarify E2C’s objectives and aims.
Ahmed Sabry’s company has volunteered to design and implement the E2C website, which will be hosted with the ISE website. The website will be completed on the 17th of December 1998.
Magda will inform the ISE/E2C of any sectoral/industrial meetings taking place at the IDSC in the future. All E2C members are welcome to attend the IDSC meetings. The eight focus areas of IDSC work on e-commerce will be presented at the next meeting.
Magda provided a summary of the “Banks” meeting that took place at the IDSC on 25/11/98.
E2C’s position with respect to Egypt’s National Ecommerce Committee and the IDSC Ecommerce committee was clarified by Magda.
Information on the ITU EC-DC will be discussed next meeting.
Agnes talked about Bay Networks’ presentation and
said that it would be beneficial to be repeated at the
E2C meeting.
Proposed activities: focus on specific sectors: roadshows, awareness seminars, publish successful scenarios (IBM), also target younger people (college and high school students) (Agnes), however Dr. Sherif said that the time now is to target the businessmen, specific industries and pragmatic communities. This year one should look at the practical side of things and should concentrate in the short-term future on business to business.
Suggested industries to look at Medical and Heavy Industries, Car industries.

Next meeting will designate working groups to committee
members for implementing ISE/E2C’s activities for the coming
year.

Minutes of Meeting
ISE/E2C

Time:
5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Place:
InTouch

Attendees: Magda Ismail, Mohamed El-Nawawy, Tarek
Abualam, Ahmed El Sobky, Ahmed Sabry, Mostafa Zafer,
Mohamed Issa, Wafik Ezzedin, Mohamed Saleh, Hossam
Megahed, Sherif Hashem
Objective:Finalize activities for ISE/E2C for the coming year
Visionsoft will not be implementing the ISE/E2C website
because Visionsoft’s condition for implementation is to mention
on its own company website that it implemented the ISE/E2C
website. The committee stressed that there should be no direct
or indirect form
of advertising by any company in the committee. Therefore,
Soficom will design and implement the ISE/E2c site with no
conditions attached.

The committee decided to remove the following projects from
the list of activities:

  • New Year Planner (too late to implement)
  • “Younger Generation”: (not high priority activity)
Two new white papers were added to the list:
  • Electronic Commerce in the transportation industry.
  • Fulfillment
The three activities of roadshows, visits and media-awareness
were blended into one activity.
Committee members volunteered to be in activities of their choice.
Two people who were absent from the meeting also volunteered:
  • Agnes Deguzman: Visits
  • Sherif El Kassas: Awareness seminars, roadshows and
    visits, Standard Presentations
The committee decided to hold E2C meetings during Ramadan
before “fitar.”

Minutes of Meeting
ISE/E2C

Time:
3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
Place:
  Soficom

Attendees: Adel Danish, Magda Ismail, Tarek Abualam,
Ahmed El Sobky, Mohamed Issa, Moustafa El Hosseiny,
Hossam Megahed, Tarek El Araby
Objective:Discuss CommerceNet and determine team
leaders for ISE/E2C activities
COMMERCENET – Dr. Adel Danish
CommerceNet is a consortium of companies formed 5-6 years
ago. It received a fund of $100, 000 from the US government
as start-up money for the project. Large companies like HP,
XEROX, etc…founded CommerceNet. Today they represent
the legal force of the electronic commerce community in the U.S.
Then, they started to establish other “CommerceNets” in other countries of the world like Sweden, South Africa, Korea, and Singapore. Two years ago they contacted Dr. Adel to establish
a CommerceNet in Egypt. However, he recommended it to be
a Middle East CommerceNet – so it became so….
Conditions for membership

Membership fee: at least $5000
Dr. Adel addressed big companies like Mansour, Accor, Ezz Group, but they were not interested at the time. “It needs lobbying with the US Aid” to reduce membership fees.

CommerceNet requires an infrastructure with permanent
employees, contact point, organizational events…etc.
The ideal situation is for a group of banks, companies and
maybe government entities to get together and create pilot
projects.
This year, an Israeli company received the award for
innovationin electronic commerce.
Saqqara Systems (Standardata’s sister company in the U.S.)
is a member of CommerceNet

Action Required
Address CommerceNet as ISE/E2C – Get someone from
high-level management from Commerce Net to come and
speak at CAINET’99 – Dr. Adel Danish will followup.
To know whether it is feasible or not, must speak to USAID.
Hossam Megahed will contact the ISE Board to collect all
proposed projects (Commerce Net, EC-DC project) to be
presented to the USAID.
Steve Mintz prepared a report on Internet as a tool for
Economic Growth in Egypt. Commerce Net was not
mentioned in the report
.
Other issues:
Hossam inquired about Euromed project and call for proposals.
Dr. Adel said that once the call for proposals are announced he
will convey this information to the E2C.
Dr. Adel brought up the subject of innovation – Egypt generally   imitates as opposed to innovates, when it comes to IT amongst
other fields. We would like to call for more innovation in this field.
Dr. Tarek Kamel was nominated to be a member of the Board
of Trustees at ISOC. The committee would like to work hard
towards gathering ballots in order to ensure Dr. Tarek’s election
to the Board. We need to promote the largest number of ISOC members to elect Dr. Tarek. ISP’s can put this idea on their
websites. Dr. Adel Danish is the designated team leader for
Commerce Net and the European Commission activities within
the E2C.
Tarek Aboualam is the team leader for the ITU, EC-DC project activity.
Reporting System: Team leaders will report on a monthly basis
to the Chair and Co-chair. However, at the end of every quarter,
team leaders will report to the E2C on their respective activities.

Next meeting will take place in two weeks’ time at MNS
at 2:30 p.m.

Time: 2:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Date: January 5th, 1999
